How we pick a bit, and why the views go to the comic

Every clip on SendComedy plays from its official upload. Here's how a bit gets in, what keeps one out, and what's coming next.

SendComedy is GIPHY for stand-up. You type what's going on, or paste a text you got, and we find a short clip that says it better. Then you send it into any chat as a link.

A few rules decide which clips make it in.

Official uploads only

Every bit plays from the comedian's or the network's own upload on YouTube, through YouTube's player. We don't download clips and we don't re-upload them. When you watch a bit here, the view counts for the comic and the channel that posted it.

That also means a comedian stays in control of their work. If they take a video down or make it private, it stops playing here too, and it drops out of the library at our next check.

One bit, one situation

A bit has to fit something people actually text about: a landlord, a first date, a delayed flight, a family group chat. Each clip is tagged with the situations it fits and a short "send it when" line. That's how search can match "landlord raised the rent again" to the right comic.

What keeps a clip out

We've turned clips away for being:

Some clips wait on hold instead: ones that need trimming to the joke, ones whose source we can't confirm, and anything we're not sure is right to send.

Checked again

Whenever we update the library, every clip is checked against YouTube again. Anything removed or no longer embeddable drops out, so you don't send a friend a dead link.

What's next

Right now most bits play from the start of the video. Next up is Clip It, our tool for trimming each clip to the joke and adding the punchline, so a bit is the bit and nothing else.

Comedians

We want your best minute in here, credited and linked back to your channel. The contact for getting a bit featured or removed is at the bottom of every page.
